Constantinos Lyras

Guitar Teacher

Constantinos Lyras was born in Nicosia, Cyprus. He started music and guitar lessons at the age of 11 in Nicosia with guitar teacher and president of the Cyprus Music Schools Association, Antonis Koizas.

From a young age he began to participate in major concerts organized by the Municipality of Nicosia and the Cyprus Music Schools Association.

In 2000, he participated in the International guitar competition “Guitar Festival of Cyprus” and won the first prize as the “Best Cypriot Participation”.

In June 2002, he made his first solo recital, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus for his distinction on his classical guitar diploma from Trinity Collage, London.

At the age of 15 Constantinos started learning electric guitar and music production. Since then he made concerts and recordings with bands in Cyprus and abroad.

At age 19, he began his music studies at the Conservatoire of Szeged in Hungary with the known guitarist and composer David Pavlovits. During that time, he was the sound engineer of the International Guitar Festivals of Szeged.

In 2005, he continued his studies at the Wolverhampton University in the United Kingdom and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Honours) in Music.

In 2007, he continued his studies at the Conservatoire of Birmingham (Part of Birmingham City University, UK) and graduated in 2008 with a PGCert – Postgraduate Certificate in Music and then in 2010 with a MMus – Master Degree in Music and Guitar Performance.

Constantinos Lyras is a RSL – Rockschool graduate in electric guitar and bass as well as a RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors, UK) graduate in acoustic guitar. He also holds a music technology certificate under Birmingham City University.

During his studies, he had the chance to meet and attend lessons with famous guitarists including: Steve Vai, Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth), Gus-G (Ozzy Osborne), John Williams, Leo Brouwer, Al Di Meola, Herman Li (Dragonforce), Gary Ryan (Trinity College), Stu-Hamm, T.M. Stevens, Xuefei Yang, David Leisner, Steve Smith (Ibanez UK), Martin Taylor, Gordon Giltrap, Evangelos Asimakopoulos, Antonis Mitzelos (Termites) and many others.

During his studies he also studied flamenco guitar and in 2014 he founded the band Rumba Attack. With Rumba Attack he performed original material in popular music festivals like Athens Technopolis Jazz Festival, 100 Guitars Concerts, Cyprus World Music & Jazz Festival, Fengaros, Ted X, Rialto Ethnic Music Festival and Paphos Ethnic Music Festival.

The last years, he has given concerts as a soloist and with various bands with the electric, flamenco and classical guitar in Cyprus, England, Hungary, Spain and Greece. He had also made several appearances on radio and television.

Constantinos is an experienced guitar teacher and also a member of the National Guitar Teacher Association of Cyprus, EGTA. Ηe gave guitar lessons in Cyprus and the UK at various music schools, such as: Yamaha Μusic Schools UK, Progress Music Academy and Litchfield Cathedral School in students of all ages.

Since early 2012, Constantinos has settled in Nicosia, Cyprus. He is teaching electric guitar, classical guitar, acoustic guitar, bass and flamenco guitar exclusively at Lyras Music School based in Strovolos, Nicosia.
